I will not hide and I will not cover
Let the world face my truth
I am the life and I am the lover
I am living and that’s the truth
No god, no rules and no fear
Fake is your world,
Of honour, respect and dignity
Let my body feel the sun
Not the burning gaze for your play and fun
The revolution has yet to deliver
My freedom, my desires and my truth
Not submission to your laws,
But a fight to avail my only chance.
I am the life and I am the lover
I am living and that’s the truth.

The “culture of obedience” will have to be dismantled one woman at a time in our part of the world also:

What little I’ve read about this cause célèbre only highlights how people in general stick like glue to the viewpoints they hold. Open-mindedness is not something inherently programmed into the human psyche. From death threats from one side of the arena to standing ovations on the other and yawns of ho-hum off to the far side, every reaction to Ms Elmahdy’s statement has reflected the basic thought process of the stater.
Don’t get me wrong. I think she has opened a can of worms long in need of opening. I salute the display of the courage of her convictions. More power to her and to women all around the world.
As an afterword to my above point about viewpoints, her statement, and the resulting debate, will have an effect on people’s ideas about women and the sexist exploitation of women for crass commercial and politic ends over the longer term (more likely positive than negative). Yes people cling to their ideals, but these can change over time and through the actions of brave and committed people.
I hope the death threats are merely rhetorical in nature.

Here’s an excerpt from an article on the subject:
…it is surprising that an adult woman’s decision to take a nude picture of herself and publish it on her blog has created more controversy across the political spectrum than the fact that Egyptian soldiers were administering “virginity tests” with their fingers on and in female protestors. It is less surprising that a photo meant to challenge, not titillate the viewer, has inspired more rage than film posters that pose a naked woman trying to escape the strategically placed grasps of a man, who is posed as a would-be rapist.

The poem is great to promote inspiration and hope to those who have lost the courage to stand against the oppression and injustice in the name of culture or religions.
It is the ultimate destination of all liberal people to attain a state where people can do away with fake ideologies and oppression.
